RYM-"Scripture is Relevant" 7/9-14/18

I love RYM. It's such a treat to be able to still attend as an adult chaperone.
This week was full of fantastic teaching and some beautiful beach weather.
The theme for the conference this year was "Scripture is Relevant" and Elbert McGowan, the main speaker did a fantastic job of bringing to light the truths about how scripture is still very, very relevant to us even today.
I'm going to share with you the highlights from my sermon notes throughout the week and some pictures of our group.

Scripture works.
It changes people.
There’s motivation that happens in the context of community (share in things)
The Word conforms is FROM something and it conforms us TO something.
The purpose of The Word is not theological information, the purpose The Word is heart transformation.

Jesus is pro-scripture and He can’t be fully understood without it.
Jesus did something unprecedented for us through His death and resurrection and when reading this scripture (Luke 24:13-49) we see that one of the first things He does after He’s risen from the dead is endorse/point people to scripture.
Scripture is ultimately about Jesus-He is the hero of scripture.
Can it be all about Him while also being for us? Yes.
There’s a hero that saves us from our messes-we cannot save ourselves. We need Jesus, our Hero, to come and rescue us.

John 13:1-20
We usually tie human love to knowledge of that person. What we know about them is what makes us love them more or makes us pull away. Jesus doesn’t love that way. He knows you more fully than anyone, and He stays.
Jesus KNEW what was soon to happen (betrayal and crucifixion). He is not uninformed. He fully understood and He still chose to have a meal with His disciples and wash their feet.
He chose to be at a table with those who would betray Him, one even to His death—this is good news to those who believe in Him because He knows we will betray Him, He knows we will deny Him, He sees all our brokenness and yet, he stays.
His love is a love that cleanses and satisfies.
The washing of His disciples feet was a foretaste of what was to come through The Great Exchange on the cross—the ultimate washing away of our sins, through His blood.
He has a love for us that will transform us.
What He did was the ultimate act of service, the ultimate act of humility.
Where does the power for that type of service and humility come from? If we can realize that Jesus, The King, did that for us, then we can do that for others, too.
We can only do this when we receive what He has given us—it becomes the fuel for our actions.

The fourth night's lesson was in regards to scripture being relevant was about Satan and the various ways we’re tempted throughout our lives.
Throughout all of scripture, we see Satan attack when people are actively seeking God + His word and oftentimes we underestimate the power and opposition of Satan in our lives.
Satan’s desire is to “choke out our faith” as a weed would in a flower bed. He is real and he is he villain—don’t be surprised when you feel him and all the heaviness he brings, all of the doubt, all of the weariness.
But, even as we know this and see this, we can and should also see a pattern of God’s faithfulness as well.
God will make a way out of no way to save His people. Satan’s resistance is fruitless and futile.
The Lord can use the evil of Satan to bring about goodness and show His faithfulness.
Our God is faithful and He has already won.

Elbert’s final sermon was real and it was raw—he spoke on death/mortality and what the scriptures have to say about it.
1 Corinthians 15:1-24
We can’t escape death, not one of us and when we sit back and consider this, it brings sadness.
It would be a disservice to not discuss death+mortality because it is real and it is present. It can bring fear and anxiety but, it can also bring hope.
It’s easy to doubt resurrection in the face of death or when you’re going through trials over and over and over. When we face mortality amongst the ones we love the deepest, our faith can be shaken.
It will appear that the villain of scripture has won and that there is no hope.
IF there was no resurrection, then what? The resurrection is the hope we have. It’s what brings all of scripture together through its fulfillment.
The grand story of scripture is hope—He WILL resurrect and He WILL restore all things.
If you are in Christ, death is a comma, not a period.
Death can touch a lot of things in this life but, it can not touch your union with God, The Father. We KNOW how the story ends—those who have died are with Him and those who haven’t, will be. Encourage one another in those truths.

What an awesome, awesome week and what a blessing it was to get to know each of these youth and sit under such fruitful teaching all week.

10 Year High School Reunion 7/14

I can not believe it has been 10 years since I graduated from high school.
Our 10 year reunion was SO MUCH FUN and it was so good getting to catch up with everyone.

A big shout out to all of our classmates that took the time to plan our reunion and make it so fun. Y'all are awesome and we appreciate all of your ideas, plans, and time that it took to make it happen.
I have to do it--I have to end with--"08' YOU KNOW!!"

Wedding Weekends 7/6 & 7/14

Two weekends well spent celebrating two couples from our church tying the knot.
I love weddings. I love hearing the vows, the music, the decorations, the reception, all of it!

The first up was the Wolfe/Ellison Wedding.
It was themed "Christmas in July" and it was so fun! They had fantastic music and even had bag pipes--which were so, so awesome! Sarah was stunning and Caleb was beaming. It was a sweet, sweet evening celebrating with them and their families.
Oh, fun fact--the "foundation" of Sarah's dress was actually her Mom's dress. They altered it and added to it and made it just how Sarah wanted. I love the history behind it and the sweet thread woven between Mother and Daughter.

Next up  was the Welch/Hunter Wedding.
We have been life long friends with the Welches and known David since childhood.
Lexie was a beautiful bride and I'm not sure I've seen a more giddy/happy groom than David.
It was the sweetest wedding and we were so, so happy to celebrate with them.

Little baby Ann with her Uncle Jason
We wish all the best to both of these sweet, sweet couples. May you all have long, fruitful marriages!

Russell's 1st Birthday Party 6/30

What a fun, fun day it is when your best friend's son turns 1!
We had such a fun afternoon celebrating Russell and his upcoming first birthday (that has now already passed on the 17th--LOL!) and look at how precious these decorations were that Melissa planned. It was perfect!

Russell was precious with his smash cake and he definitely put on a show. It was the cutest thing!

Three generations right here and I'll be the first to say...Aunt life is the best thing, ever!
It's crazy to think that it's been a full year since Russell was born. I will never forget face timing with Melissa shortly after he was born (of course, I was at the beach---just like I was this year when he started walking!) and how excited we all were. He was healthy, ten fingers, ten toes, and a head full of BLEACH BLONDE HAIR and none of that has changed--other than his hair getting a little longer--LOL! It has been so much fun watching him hit milestones, developing his little personality, watching him walk like a cute, little wobbly toddler this past Sunday, and all the things in between. The sweetest of all has been seeing my best friends transition into parenthood and taking in all that comes with that. As Melissa said at Russell's party, "it takes a village" and I am so, so thankful that Jason and I get to be a part of this one.

Influenster (7) and (8)

For those of you that have been following along for a while, you know that I signed up for Influenster which is a website where you can earn free, full size products in exchange for an honest review and a few postings about the product. I think it's been a lot of fun and I've been able to try a lot of neat products through this program. If you want to sign up, anyone can, just click this link here and give it a go!

These are the two most recent boxes I've received.
I was so, so excited about this DevaCurl product. I've used their shampoo and conditioner many times and it does wonders for my hair. It's a little pricy, which is why I only buy it for myself at Christmas time. You can imagine how thrilled I was when I received the email saying I was getting this product! If you have curly hair, this wash day wonder...well, it works wonders. You use it in the shower before shampooing and it allows you to easily brush out the knots. I loved the smell of it and it did just what it said it would. Made detangling so much easier and, my hair was much less frizzy when I used it as well. All in all, something I will definitely use again.

This second box was something else. All four of these products were full size (which still blows my mind) and they smelled so, so good. Unfortunately, Jason can't use products that are scented so I wasn't able to get his opinion on them. But, I did pass them along to my brother-in-law and he said overall, the scent wasn't his favorite but, that he liked the products. Even with little participation in this one, I think it's pretty awesome they sent four, full size items. I was impressed.

These last two boxes have been awesome, makes me excited for the next!

Ship Island (4) 6/16

My 4th time to attend the Annual Father's Day trip to Ship Island to celebrate our Coco with Jason's side of our family. It was a beautiful day and we had perfect weather.
Even though some of us got too much sun, It always makes for a fun day when we can get together and visit, relax, laugh, eat together and enjoy.

It was indeed a Happy Father's Day and as always, I am thankful I get to be a part of this tradition and this family.

I Love the 90's Tour

I am so, so behind in keeping up with what's been going on! I'm sorry but, life has been happening and I've been living it. Time has finally slowed down enough for me to sit down and update you with a few posts of what's been going on/the fun things I've been getting to do.

In June, some of my very best friends and I decided to have a girls night, dress up in our best 90's attire and go to the "I love the 90's Tour" that was at the new amphitheater in Brandon.
... We had THE BEST TIME! The music was so much fun, the atmosphere was awesome, it was such a fun night. Honestly though, who better to go to the "I love the 90's Tour" than with your best friends from the 90's. It was a blast.
We were able to get front row, center as we listened/danced the night away to Salt-n-Peppa, Coolio, Tone Loc, and Young MC

"From Now On"

It is no secret that I absolutely love this movie.
If you haven't seen "The Greatest Showman" stop right this very second and go watch it--if you don't like it--well, I'm not sure we can be friends anymore ;)

The whole message of inclusion and bringing together people who were considered outcasts from society and making a safe place for them, a family for them, a place that highlights their strengths--it made me cry while simultaneously plastering a huge smile across my face.

For as many times as I've watched the movie, I've listened to the album double that many times. The music is just SO GOOD and it's so moving. I mean, read the lyrics to "A Million Dreams", "Come Alive", "This Is Me", and "From Now On"--those are some powerful songs. Then, if you really want your mind blown, actually watch the scenes where those songs are performed and I'll come over so I can pick your jaw up off the floor for you (I'm crazy obsessed, I know)--those lyrics with the dancing, the bright colors, the people, it's just magical.
Yesterday, I was taking a walk and listening to this album and per usual, this song is just...everything and it hit me--something about this song makes me think about little splashes of Heaven, here on earth.

Hear me out.

If you haven't seen the movie, you've got to watch this scene before you move forward:
(sorry, literally the only version with the movie clip I could find had those subtitles on it)
Here we have these...oddities, as they are called in the movie...they've been shunned by society most all of their lives and since ole P.T. walked into their lives, they began building friendships, family, a common thread between them all that tied them together and made them stronger.

P.T. has put them on the back burner, their livelihood has just been taken from them by fire and quite honestly, they have every right to be mad and I think that's exactly why I love this song so much.  I love how they take him back after he left them, chasing after “truer, bigger, and better” things.
But, above all else, I love the spiritual parallel of coming back home, to our true home, the place we were made to be. On this side of Heaven, we have bright lights, big ideas and many worldly "attractions" that take us away and make us lose focus and we forget that we can always come back home. We are marching towards THE home that we were made for.

That's what this song makes me think about.

So I'll leave you with just a few words from the song:

Cause from the rubble
What remains
Can only be what's true
If all was lost
There's more I gained
Cause it led me back
To you

From now on
These eyes will not be blinded by the lights
From now on
What's waited till tomorrow starts tonight
Tonight
Let this promise in me start
Like an anthem in my heart
From now on
From now on

And we will come back home
And we will come back home
Home, again!

5 Year Engagement-aversary

I am a month late in posting this---but, life (ya know?)

We had the fun privilege of being in New Orleans the same weekend we got engaged 5 years ago now! We always have so much fun being in New Orleans, walking the square, going to "our spot" where my hunky husband got down on one knee and proposed to me...even though I didn't realize he was doing it--(embarrassing)--LOL. If you want to read the whole story of our engagement, check it out here. This time around, we were with friends and family and made the trip to see The Phantom of the Opera at the Saenger Theater. It was AMAZING--one of my all-time favorites.
Did you even go to New Orleans if you didn't get a croissant from Croissant D'or?
 Love this theater--it's so stunning.

We had the best time and I know we won't always be able to be in New Orleans to celebrate our Engagement-aversary so, I am quite thankful for the times that we can.
